The caption reads: "Tony Schwamm purchased two Italian Savota Marchetti SM-55 Flying Boats in 1936. He brought them to Alaska under the company name Alaska Airways. The Savotas were not a very successful aircraft for use in Alaska's inclement weather. One of the SM-55's was utilized for spare parts while the other was wrecked in a wind storm.  It was towed to shallow water and left to deteriorate into oblivion."
