This plane performed many roles in the war and afterwards.
It has been described as a patrol bomber. It also has been remembered for rescueing downed pilots. After the war, it found a job as a civilian fire-bomber. This picture shows the huge overhead wing. I have seen two other examples of this plane, although not in as good a shape. The museum in Alaska had a very rough example awaiting restoration, soon to be added to this site. I also found one in the middle of restoration in nearby Aurora. I have some pictures that will be added when time allows.
